England will play Argentina in a friendly on 12 November if they have already qualified for the World Cup.
Argentina have secured their path to the 2006 finals in Germany and England will book their place if they finish top of Group Six.
If England finish second they will have to qualify via a two-leg play-off and the Argentina game will be abandoned.
Argentina's Football Association announced the match but the English FA has yet to confirm the Geneva fixture.
England and Argentina have a long history of rivalry, including the infamous 1986 World Cup quarter-final in Mexico known for Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' goal for the South Americans.
The last time they met was in a group stage game at the 2002 World Cup when Michael Owen won a penalty which David Beckham converted to earn England a 1-0 win.
