Mandaric confirms Leicester bid

Former Portsmouth owner Milan Mandaric has confirmed he has made a bid for Championship club Leicester.

"I feel I have made a fair and generous offer to acquire Leicester City Football Club from the present shareholders," said the 68-year-old.

Mandaric, who left Portsmouth in September, revealed he would have preferred a longer break between clubs.

But he added: "Following other interest in the club I have had to accelerate takeover plans."

Leicester later confirmed they had received Mandaric's bid, which is believed to be in the region of £25m.

"My aim is to re-awaken Leicester City and aspire to the dreams of their passionate supporters and bring Premiership football back to the club at the earliest opportunity," said Mandaric.

A statement on the Foxes' website said: "We will give the offer full consideration.

"We have a number of options available to the board and it is imperative that the right decision is taken to safeguard, protect and develop the best interests of the football club in the short, medium and long term.

"As soon as it is practically possible, the club will communicate further with shareholders, supporters and staff."

Mandaric guided Portsmouth into the Premiership before selling the club to Alexandre Gaydamak earlier this year.

He continued in a role of non-executive chairman at Fratton Park before finally severing his links at the end of September.

Der Klub stand 2003 kurz vor dem Bankrott und konnte nur durch tatkräftige Unterstützung eines Konsortiums (darunter Ex-LCFCler Gary Lineker) gerettet werden.

Das moderne Walkers Stadium (32500 Sitzplätze) wurde verkauft, viele wichtige Spieler verliessen das Schiff ebenfalls recht schnell oder wurden entlassen (Izzet, Heskey, Dickov, Scowcroft, Walker, Stewart, Taggart, Kasey Keller, Scimeca, Thatcher, Savage, Darren Bent). Mittlerweile gilt Leicester als ein mittelgrosser Club mit einer soliden Jugendarbeit. Die neuen Jungen werden von anderen Vereinen abgeworben und Spieler kaufen ist mit dem beschränkten Budget keine leichte Angelegenheit.

Seit dem Abstieg aus der Prem im Jahr 2004 ist das Geld wirklich knapp, noch immer drückt eine Schuldenlast von mehreren Millionen Pfund.

Und dass Mandaric was von Fussballvereinübernahmen versteht, hat er ja mit Pompey bewiesen...

Ich hoffe nur das Beste und wünsche dem Club ab Ende diesen Jahres (wenn Milan das Ruder übernehmen soll) viel Erfolg.
