Wir haben grausam Werbung für uns gemacht und in Zukunft werden womöglich Talente wie Dragovic und Salah noch leichter nach Basel zu lotsen sein wie bis anhin...
war ein riesen match von allen, vor allem voser und steini haben mich beeindruckt, wie die hinten dicht hielten - RESPECT

Die Gefahr, dass die Mannschaft abhebt und sich schon im Halbfinale wähnt, sehe ich gerade wegen des 2:2 nicht. Wäre es beim 0:2 geblieben, hätte es vielleicht anders ausgesehen und bei einem frühen Gegentor wäre man plötzlich nicht mehr in der Lage gewesen, den Schalter umzulegen. Aber bei 2:2 sollte jedem klar sein: Es braucht eine weitere Riesenleistung und auch das nötige Glück, um weiterzukommen.

Worst scenario. I have tickets for the away fixture in Basel and I really wanted to see Bale + Lennon play. I've never been to a spurs match before. Very frustrating and sad night.

It is hard to fathom how Jan Vertonghen was so poor after being so incredible at Swansea last Saturday. He was not the only one either. William Gallas showed why he is only picked for Europe these days and Benoit Assou-Ekotto looked a shadow of the consistent performer who has graced the Premier League in recent seasons. Tottenham were fortunate not to fall behind in the 10th minute as Basel went close three times inside 60 seconds. Fabian Schar had a swirling shot beaten away by keeper Brad Friedel, who then blocked Marco Streller’s shot from Salah’s cross at point-blank range. Seconds later Streller crossed for Markus Steinhofer to volley over.
We had to wait until the 17th minute for Tottenham’s first shot on target when Bale uncharacteristically scuffed a free kick into the keeper Yann Sommer’s arms via a deflection. Bale then toe-poked Lewis Holtby’s cross around a post. Spurs suffered a blow in 24th minute when Aaron Lennon went off injured and was replaced by Gylfi Sigurdsson. Spurs looked to be getting a foothold in the game when Kyle Naughton’s volley from 30 yards three minutes later was diverted past the post by defender Aleksandar Dragovic.
But the Swiss deservedly opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with a move started and finished by Stocker. After bundling his way through the Spurs midfield he played the ball out to the right to Salah, who put in a cross that fell just behind Streller. The skipper turned and fired a shot against a post and Stocker stuck the rebound into the net.
Things got even worse for AVB’s men five minutes later as they gifted the Swiss a second goal with another piece of poor defending from a corner. Vertonghen, who was stationed at the near post, could only deflect the delivery into the path of the unmarked Fabian Frei who headed home. Next week’s second leg might have been a formality had Streller’s dinked effort over the oncoming Friedel not bounced wide in the 37th minute.
Remarkably, though, Tottenham found themselves back in the tie three minutes later as Emmanuel Adebayor forced Scott Parker’s cross into the roof of the net. And the England man should have equalised moments later but with an open goal at his mercy he somehow hit his shot against the boots of team-mate Lewis Holtby — who was laying on the turf after being thwarted by Sommer — and wide of the target.
But anybody who thought Basel would just rollover after the break were wrong. Silky Salah outstripped the Spurs defence and had a shot blocked by Friedel’s legs — before Sigurdsson levelled in the 58th minute. The Iceland star cut inside from the left and hit a shot from 25 yards which dipped into the net courtesy of a wicked deflection off Schar.
Surely now Spurs would take control of the game. But no. Basel continued to run the show. Salah clipped a shot over the bar after twisting to leave Vertonghen and sub Michael Dawson — who had been sent on by Villas-Boas in a desperate bid to shore up his lacklustre defence. And Friedel had to be alert to stop a Stocker free-kick from sneaking under the angle of post and bar.
Just as Spurs were about to breathe a huge sigh of relief, Bale got injured. It was the only bit of bad luck they suffered all night — and it could end up ruining their season.
